The Issue

Join us in calling on the Cumberland City Council to declare that Cumberland is a Safe Haven for the LGBTQIA+ Community to live, visit and enjoy.

What is a Safe Haven? It can mean many things, but to start with it is a public statement that our city is a safe place for LGBTQIA+ folks to live, visit, dine, worship and simply exist in peace. It can also mean anti-discrimination policies that ensure real and meaningful legal protection at the local level.

While the state of Maryland has relatively solid anti-discrimination language in state law, the City of Cumberland could improve our current language.  So, our first ask of the Cumberland City Council is to update that policy.

Members of the community have already started the effort by signing on the letter found here.  You can learn more about our proposed update to the City's anti-discrimination policy in the linked letter.
