I am a 4th year student at California State University- Long Beach. Every semester I am welcomed back by my professors and I truly enjoy being apart of the university’s community. However, after attending the university for the past three years CSULB has continuously disregarded its students and community’s financial situations. A few examples: 

1. Maintaining tuition rates during remote learning.
2. The increase in student fees aside from the cost of tuition.

and most importantly: 

3. The 62% parking permit price increase since 2019-2020’s academic year. 

I understand that there are financial needs for the university, but continuing the routine of financially punishing students is the issue. As a student who’s fall semester 2022 will only consist of visiting campus two days a week (while still paying a full time tuition) for scheduled in person classes, a five hundred dollar fee is not reasonable on top of commuter gas  costs. Not to mention CSULB’s lower campus parking is currently far from a majority of student classrooms and resources.

Just recently CSULB has opened the opportunity to pay for a more affordable parking lot that not only has limited spaces, but is also a further distance from campus. This may be cheaper, but it will only be offered to a select number of students. 

There is only option for this problem: 

Decrease the Lower campus parking permit rates to ensure safety and accessibility for students. 

If no action is taken to this issue this exemplifies that CSULB does not care about their students welfare and/or wellbeing. 

Please support CSULB students and its community by signing this petition and lowering the cost of the educational experience at California State University- Long Beach.
