Make Crossing Catalina & Heron Safer

The Issue

Children who live in Baker Ranch walk across the intersection of Catalina and Heron every day to travel between Promenade Park and Courtside Park for sports, playgrounds, walks, and neighborhood events. For many families, this is part of everyday life in the community.

The problem is that Catalina is a very wide road and drivers often use it to travel between Alton Parkway and Bake Parkway. Since there are no speed bumps or other traffic-calming measures to slow drivers down, cars sometimes go very fast down Catalina.

Right now, there is no protected crosswalk at Catalina and Heron. Children who want to cross usually have to wait on the sidewalk until every car passes before attempting to cross. But even when it seems safe, cars can appear suddenly and it can be difficult for children to know what to do. Sometimes, people who have already started crossing the road need to stop, rush, or even turn back in the middle of the street.

The current situation is a safety risk for children and families.

This petition asks the City of Lake Forest to conduct a survey to determine how the intersection could be made safer for pedestrians, including possibly installing a crosswalk and/or stop sign.

A survey of the intersection can help identify the best way to improve pedestrian safety for the many children and families who walk between Promenade Park and Courtside Park every day.

Please sign this petition to help make Baker Ranch safer for children and families.
