Make CPP-D Exempt Income for Income Support

The Issue

Canada Pension Plan Disability is a program established by the Government of Canada to assist with the cost of various disabilities for those that are eligible. Unfortunately, that is not taken into account when one is on income support in many provinces, especially Alberta, where it is seen as general income, and thus deducted from the person's income support amount. This has the obvious effect of making sure that people who are disabled are stuck in a perpetual loop of poverty if they have no other sources of funding. All other sources of disability funding are already exempt income, as is child care funding (Child Tax Credit, Disability Tax Credit, etc.). This needs to be addressed and corrected as many people fall through the cracks due to this. Please speak up and sign tell the Government of Alberta to fix this gap in the Income Support Act.
