I am writing this petition deeply moved by the sight of defenseless animals being dumped, neglected, and abandoned to starve to death. The time to act is now. In our county, it's become a common trend for irresponsible pet owners to dispose of their pets as if they're mere properties, without a thought for their well-being. This is not just inhumane; it is also illegal. Yet, our elected County Officials often seem to ignore this issue.

With this petition, I aim to ensure our elected County Officials enforce the laws that criminalize animal abuse. According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, neglect is the most common type of animal abuse and can lead to severe physical and emotional suffering for pet animals. For fear of confrontation or due to lack of resources, many officials often ignore or overlook these cases leading offenders to walk away free of any charges.

I urge that our County Officials establish a more proactive approach towards handling cases of animal dumping and neglect. They must be held accountable for enforcing laws designed to protect these innocent animals from abuse. If we remain silent, we give consent to this maltreatment.
