Make Climate Change a Top Priority to Save Our Planet and Its Inhabitants
The Issue
As someone deeply affected by the ongoing climate crisis, I see our world changing before my eyes. The Earth's climate is being altered due to human activities, leading to increasingly disruptive societal and ecological impacts. According to the dictionary, "Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns." However, it's more than just a definition; it's a reality that threatens our very existence. For the passed 3 years here in West Chester our once snowy town we have seen not a flick of snow on the ground, the once snowy capped mountains are now bear.
The temperature of the earth is rising at an alarming rate. In a study a group of scientists found that the temperature in average rises 0.23F/0.13C per year. This increase in temperature is causing habitats of countless animals and plants to be destroyed. It breaks my heart knowing millions of innocent creatures are losing their homes - their lives - because we have failed them.
Research shows that 3.6 billion people already live in areas highly susceptible to climate change. Between 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause approximately 250 000 additional deaths per year, from undernutrition, malaria, diarrhea and heat stress alone.
Global surface temperatures have risen faster since 1970 than in any 50-year period over the past 2,000 years, and this has been particularly pronounced in recent years. From 2023 to 2027, the annual average temperature is predicted to range between 1.1 and 1.8 degrees Celsius higher than the 1850–1900 average
But this isn't just about animals and plants; it's about us too. If we continue on this path, climate change may become irreversible, forever altering our world as we know it.
It is time for us all to acknowledge the severity of this issue and make combating climate change a higher priority in our personal lives, communities, countries, and indeed globally.
Let us not stand idly by while our planet suffers. Let us take action now before it’s too late so that future generations can enjoy the beauty of nature as we have been privileged enough to do so.
Please sign this petition urging policymakers worldwide to prioritize addressing climate change immediately!
