Make Clay Ganesha mandatory. Appeal to Prime Minister for 100% Eco-Visarjan policy.
The Issue
Respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji,
We, devotees of Lord Ganesha celebrate ganesha chaturthi with great enthusiasum and devotion . It teaches us that what comes from nature, returns to nature. Or in other words "Srusti, Sthithi, Samharam (Layam). " That's how the life cycle completed.
But today, 70% of Ganesha idols are made of Plaster of Paris, Paper pulp, and chemical paints which do not dissolve and are polluting our rivers, lakes and seas. We understand the serious problem and would like to change ourself by creating awareness among us. We seek your sincere support too.
We appeal to you to:
1. Make Shadu Clay / Natural Clay mandatory for all public idols across India, with subsidy for traditional artisans.
2.Strictly ban Plaster of Paris and chemical paints for idols that are meant to immerse, as already suggested by CPCB. Also strictly minimize the size of the idol to maximum of 4 feet.
3. Keep big Idol only for displays and processions if required. Keep a small clay idol along with the big Idol for Pooja and visarjan. make sure the small clay idols are symbolically immersed. Not the big ones.
4. Make Artificial Immersion Tanks in every city corporation, so Visarjan happens without polluting main water bodies.
5. Promote "Ghar pe Visarjan, Paudhe me Punarjanam" - home immersion in bucket and using clay water for Tulsi / plants.
This will save our water, save our artisans who know clay art, and keep our faith pure.
Jai Shri Ganesha! Bharat Mata Ki Jai!
