Make Cheerleading a Sport in Nevada!

Make Cheerleading a Sport in Nevada!
The Issue
Cheerleading is a rigorous sport that requires a tremendous amount of athletic ability. Not only is it necessary for each individual to perform at their best, meaning conditioning to become stronger, and working on skills to get better and better ever day, but it requires teamwork. A team can fall apart when even one person is out of line. it's competitive, and definitely a sport, even though for the moment, NIAA doesn't recognize it as one. Not only does it impact cheerleaders in schools who aren't recognized for their athleticism, and gets left out from the representation, but it affects magnet school cheerleaders who cannot do it for their zoned school, as it is only considered an "activity."
Cheerleading is a relatively expensive sport, especially when done by an All Star team, or a gym unrelated to school. Compared to the fee for a cheer team done by a school, the price can be much lower. If this sport was recognized as one, it may give the opportunity to kids who can't afford a club team a shot at a school team. Also, cheerleading may start to see more consistent safety regulations, and actually treating it as a physical activity. This means making sure all practices are supervised, especially when stunting or tumbling, and coaches needing certification.
Cheer is beloved by many athletes, and isn't just some girls on the sideline shouting "Go Team!" It's dedication, amazing strength, flexibility, communication and most importantly, competitive. While, of course, still holding on to that team spirit. Making it a sport would ensure safety of cheerleaders, allowing magnet school cheerleaders to try out for their zoned team, and may provide a better financial decision.
