Make Change For Their Habitat: Be The Voice For Polar Bears!
The Issue
The Arctic is known for its extreme, icy-cold climate, with a long duration of winter and chilly summers. However, we are currently seeing the effects of the climate change all over the earth's environment. Especially, the Arctic, where most of the Alaskan and Greenlandic Polar bears are there for their natural habitat and survival. The Polar Bears are an intriguing embodiment of the North and an essential component of this uncertain ecosystem as they are also known as the top of the food chain, they play a critical role in the general health of the marine ecosystem. Polar bears have played a significant role in Arctic peoples' cultures and economics for thousands of years.
Climate change is causing the Arctic to warm twice as rapidly as the rest of the world, reducing Arctic sea ice cover by 14% per decade. In comparison to the median sea ice cover recorded between 1981 and 2010, we have lost around 770,000 square miles, which is larger than Alaska and California combined. The main threat to polar bear survival is the loss of sea ice habitat caused by climate change. Other threats to polar bears include deadly responses to human-polar bear conflict, toxic contamination in the environment, direct repercussions from industrial development, such as disturbance of mother dens or contact with an oil spill, and probable overhunting of some subpopulations.
The fate of the Polar Bears are in our hands. We are the voices of them, for we have to save their lives in order for them to live longer and cannot extinct. It is the time to make change for them and for their natural habitats.
