School students across New Zealand rely on buses to get to and from school every day, but the cost of public transport can place an unnecessary financial burden on students and their families. For some families, especially those with multiple children travelling by bus, these costs can add up significantly over the school year. Students should be able to access education without transport costs becoming a barrier. Providing free bus fares for school students would make getting to school more affordable, accessible and equitable for students and their whānau.
