My name is Sam.  I am 8 years old and I live on Bowman Parade in Bardon and I go to school at St Josephs.

Every day I walk to school with my mum and my little brother.  We walk down Bowman Parade and then cross over the street just past the Bowls Club where the creek runs under the road.  It’s a crossing spot, but there isn’t a zebra crossing marker.  Then we walk up towards the school and cross over at Cecil Road with the School Crossing Supervisor.

I want to start walking to school in the morning by myself but my mum won’t let me because she says the crossing on Bowman Parade is too dangerous.  There aren't any speed humps or slow down signs on the road, and cars come down Bowman Parade really fast and sometimes you can’t see them coming when you stand on the footpath near the crossing. Sometimes by the time we see a car coming we are already in the middle of the road and we have to either go back or stand in the middle of the road and wait for it to pass.  We have seen this happen to lots of other people at the crossing too.

I want to ask the Council to do something to make the crossing more safe for everyone who uses it.  I have included some of my ideas about options.  I think it would help to have as many people sign this petition as possible so that Council know that it is something that lots of other people are worried about too.
