Yesterday changed my life in a way I never anticipated. My beloved cat was hit by a vehicle on Bostall Lane. A witness saw the collision and saw that the impact had thrown my cat into the air. When I reached him, he was still alive and badly injured. I picked him up and held him as he died within minutes.

This is not the first time I have experienced the devastating consequences of vehicles on Bostall Lane. I have previously lost another cat last year after she was hit by a vehicle on this road that was speeding. I am aware that cats do not receive the same legal protection as some other domestic animals when they are involved in a road collision. As a cat owner who has now lost two cats on Bostall Lane, I find this particularly distressing and believe that preventing these tragedies through safer roads should be a priority.

I am deeply concerned that, despite Bostall Lane having a 20mph speed limit and existing speed bumps, vehicles are still being driven at dangerous speeds.

I am also aware that another car was involved in a collision on Bostall Lane approximately two weeks ago. I do not know the specifics of that collision so I do not want to make assumptions. However, I believe it should be considered when the safety of this road is assessed.

I am asking the Royal Borough of Greenwich to urgently investigate whether the existing measures on Bostall Lane are actually working.

Specifically, I am calling on the Council to:

• Conduct an official speed survey on Bostall Lane, including during times when speeding is most prevalent.

• Review collision and road-safety data for Bostall Lane.

• Assess whether the existing 20mph speed limit and traffic-calming measures are effective.

• Consider additional measures to reduce dangerous speeds, including further traffic calming, vehicle-activated speed signs, improved signage and road markings, and appropriate enforcement.

• Work with the Metropolitan Police where appropriate to address dangerous or excessive speeding.

• Consult local residents and provide a clear response about what action can be taken and when.

This petition is not about blaming every collision on speeding, and it is not simply a request for more speed bumps. It is a request for Greenwich Council to measure the problem, investigate the evidence and take effective action where it is needed.

Bostall Lane is a residential road. Residents, children, pedestrians, cyclists, drivers and animals should be able to use it without being put at unnecessary risk by dangerous driving.

I don't want another family to experience what mine has experienced.
