So i have now heard back from a few different people within governemnt in regards to Body Cameras.
There definitely seems to be movement in the right direction from most involved! I am definitely getting the impression this is going to happen!
A really helpful piece of information i recieved from one BC legislature describes the biggest obstacle which has been delaying the implementation of body cameras which is no longer an issue.
"Until recently, concerns impacting the deployment of body worn cameras were technical in nature, as well as identifying a quality product that would work in all conditions. A major obstacle was the storage capacity for recorded video. Up until recently, the ability of using “cloud” storage was limited as BC and Canada did not have a Canadian based system to access. The use of storage systems base in foreign countries did not meet Canadian statutory requirements. I understand there are at least two Canadian based companies that have the capacity to now provide cloud storage"
As expected the cost has been used as an easy to explain excuse when it actual fact cost was far from the biggest issue. Its nice to know there was more to it.
Attached is another interview i did in regards to body cameras for Vancouver is Awesome. Check it out.
Lets keep sharing and make sure this issue stays a priority.
Thank you!
