Despite 24 states already allowing their employees to take the Friday after Thanksgiving as a paid day off, the rest of the United States is forced to work on Black Friday.

We feel that Black Friday should be a national holiday, along with Thanksgiving, to celebrate the American values of family, food and commerce.

In an effort to bring the Black Friday Holiday to all Americans, FatWallet has commissioned a petition to make Black Friday a national holiday. Once the Change.org hosted petition reaches 10,000 signatures, FatWallet will send the petition to the U.S. Congress for a proposed bill to make Black Friday a national holiday.

We surveyed 1,000 Americans, and an overwhelming number of parents and moms want off on Black Friday. 

That majority grew even larger when only mothers were asked.

• Moms: 75% Yes
