Make Bigfoot California's state cryptid (AB 666) brought to you by the Cryptidiots Podcast
The Issue
Bigfoot is often hailed as the king of cryptids, and California, with its reputation as the fourth largest economy in the world, certainly holds the title of the king of states. As proud Californians and Cryptozoologists, the Cryptidiots podcast believe it just feels right that California should officially recognize Bigfoot as its state cryptid.
Assemblymember Chris Rogers has taken a remarkable step forward by introducing Bill AB 666 in support of Bigfoot; and now our collective support can ensure this proposal is given the serious consideration it deserves, rather than being dismissed due to its comedic nature. This bill is not just about embracing a legendary icon, but also about celebrating our culture, our folklore, and our shared sense of wonderment. Bigfoot was born in California (the name not, perhaps, the creature), it's only right we recognize its origin.
I was first introduced to the wonders of Bigfoot on a backpacking trip in King's Canyon. The trip up was littered with brilliantly eclectic shops selling all manner of Bigfoot paraphernalia. This world of ours is stunning, the natural beauty never ceases to amaze and that natural beauty is everywhere. What sets Northern California's nature apart, for me, is the legend of Bigfoot attached to it. Not only are the hulking redwoods breathtaking, the thought that a Bigfoot could be hiding amongst quickens the pulse and makes me want to visit time and time again.
Across the vibrant landscapes of California—from the dense forests of the north to the sprawling deserts and coastal regions—Bigfoot has served as an intriguing figure of mystery and imagination. Recognizing Bigfoot officially cements California’s cultural appreciation for its folklore. It's an opportunity for educational dialogues, tourism development, and a distinctive unifying symbol for all Californians.
Supporting the bill sends a strong message to the California State Congress that we are a state that celebrates its uniqueness, its history, and its creativity. Such a step not only respects our past but also encourages future generations to embrace the mysteries and marvels accompanying California's rich legacy.
Let us rally together and voice our support for this unique designation, cementing Bigfoot not only as a part of California’s cryptozoological narrative but as an enchanting part of our state's heritage.
Sign the petition to help recognize Bigfoot as the official state cryptid of California and celebrate the spirit of wonder that defines us all.
Once this petition reaches 1,000 signatures, it will be sent to Chris Rogers to bolster his fight for what matters: bringing Bigfoot home.
