The Issue

Sign this petition today to protect your children from ICE activity on public property in Bellevue through the creation of legal ICE-free zones.

Every day, parents in Bellevue send their children to school, the park, or a public community center expecting those places to be safe. Yet as recent events here and around the country have demonstrated, many families now live with the fear that armed ICE officers could appear in these previously assumed safe places. The presence of masked, armed and often warrantless ICE enforcers near schools and public facilities can create deep anxiety—not just for immigrant families, but for any parent who believes children should never be exposed to fear or trauma in their own community. This is a moment that demands action from all of us, please help us protect your family and our community.

In cities like Chicago, steps have been taken to restrict ICE operations, designating public properties as ICE-free zones. This means U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement cannot use these areas as staging grounds for raids or other operations. Bellevue must follow this similar process.

The necessity for such measures is clear. According to a study by the Urban Institute, constant fear of immigration enforcement can hinder the social and emotional development of children in affected communities. They report heightened levels of stress, anxiety, and distraction, impacting their educational success and overall well-being. As such, ensuring that ICE activities are kept away from schools and community places is vital not only for the mental health of the children but also for fostering a well-rounded educational environment.

We urge the city officials to collaborate with local groups and community leaders to create policies that will make Bellevue safe for children and families. This includes making all schools, parks, libraries, courthouses, City Hall, and other public facilities designated as ICE-free zones, similar to initiatives in other cities.

By taking these actions, Bellevue will make a strong statement in protecting the rights and safety of its residents, creating an inclusive community that values the well-being of all its members. Our children deserve to grow up in a city where they feel safe, free from anxiety and fear.

Join us in our mission to safeguard our children and strengthen the unity of our community by signing our petition to make Bellevue Public Property an ICE-free zone. Your support will help ensure all families feel secure in their own community.
