Update on a safer Auburn road

Kirsten PaulsenHawthorn, Australia

Hi neighbours,

Just wanted to provide an update, please don’t think we’ve forgotten about our petition with the council!

I received the below response from the Boroondara transport engineer managing the case :

“Hi Kirsten,

I trust you are well.

We have touched base with the Department of Transport to see how they are going with their assessment. We are hoping to hear back from them in the coming weeks.

The Department of Transport normally considers applications towards the end of the calendar year for funding consideration for the following financial year i.e. they will review applications by end Dec 2021 for funding consideration in 21/22.

We are unlikely to have Option 1 (pedestrian signals) funded given the benefit cost ratio, however Option 2 (sic: refuge islands) stands a good chance.

I can be in touch once we have an update.

Feel free to call and discuss.

Kind regards,

Ella Constable
Senior Transport Engineer”

Very hopeful for a positive result on this at the end of the year. I’ve also included a snippet of the engineers drawing of the proposed refuge islands for safer crossing.

Thank you so much for your support so far! We received almost 500 signatures but it would be great to get even more! Here’s a link to share https://www.change.org/p/make-auburn-road-safer-for-pedestrians

Kind regards,

your neighbour, Kirsten
