The Issue

Seeing too many dogs scheduled to be euthanized has become an unbearable reality in our society. Their last glimmer of hope extinguished because there simply isn’t enough time or space for them. These innocent creatures, with nothing but love to give, are paying the ultimate price for circumstances beyond their control – overpopulation and abandonment. It’s not their fault, yet they face fatal consequences.

Animal shelters across the United States are overwhelmed, grappling with the harsh reality of limited resources and space. Every year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized, despite the fact that these animals are often healthy, friendly, and ready for adoption. This staggering statistic only highlights the urgent need for change. Research shows that over 90% of animals in shelters are healthy or treatable and could be saved if they were given the time and proper resources.

In our quest for a compassionate society, the notion of life versus death shouldn’t rest on overcrowded shelters. Implementing non-kill policies in every state is not only a humane decision but a necessary one. By adopting progressive measures like increased funding for shelters, expanding foster programs, and promoting spay/neuter initiatives, we can address the root of the overpopulation issue and ensure that every animal has a fighting chance.

We urge legislative bodies and local governments to allocate more funds to shelters, to initiate educational programs that promote responsible pet ownership, and to work closely with local communities to increase adoption rates. Together, we can shift from a reactionary system to a proactive one where every life matters, and no animal is left behind. Breeding laws for backyard breeders and puppy mills really need to change with licensing and limitations.

Join us in pleading for change. Sign the petition to demand non-kill shelters in every state, giving each dog and animal the second chance they deserve to find a loving home.
