Even S.F. Animal Care & Control advises cat guardians to keep cats indoors*: “Outdoor cats can be hit by cars, attacked by loose dogs, become lost, and can be preyed upon by coyotes. Please keep them safe indoors.” However, ACC now REQUIRES stray cats to be dumped or left outdoors, whether or not they can return to a loving home or secure shelter. Why isn’t ACC following its own advice? Residents expect their animal shelter to act as the temporary guardian of stray pets until the animals can be returned to their homes or adopted. Our shelter is abandoning its primary obligation by heartlessly acting as a revolving door for pets in need.
