The Issue

I know firsthand how dull school can become without a proper break. As a student who spends long hours in the classroom, going from one subject to another with only a short break to eat, I find myself exhausted and disengaged by the end of the day. This isn't just my experience; many of my classmates feel the same way. The lack of recess is making school more of a chore than a place of learning and growth.

Recess isn't just a time to relax; it's a crucial part of the school day that allows students to recharge, socialize, and exercise. Research supports the benefits of recess, highlighting how it helps students remain focused and improves their academic performance. For middle and high school students, who face increasing academic pressures and social challenges, recess is even more essential.

Countries like Finland, where students enjoy multiple breaks throughout the day, consistently rank high in education systems worldwide. Reintroducing recess in middle and high schools would help foster a more productive and enjoyable learning environment. Students would return to class with more enthusiasm and better attention spans, fostering both mental and physical well-being.

By ignoring the need for recess, we're sending a message that students' well-being isn't a priority. However, we have the opportunity to change this and help create a more balanced school day that acknowledges the importance of breaks. Let's advocate for change by signing this petition to bring back recess for all middle and high school students. Your support can make a significant difference in making school a happier and more engaging place for everyone.
