Make All Disabled Parking Bays Yellow so they can be Enforced
The Issue
Disabled parking is an essential facility that aids people with disabilities in maintaining their independence and quality of life. However, numerous disabled parking bays on our public roads are painted white, making them only advisory and hence, not enforceable by law. The lack of enforcement leads to misuse and can cause significant distress and inconvenience for those who genuinely need it. Painting all disabled parking bays yellow will make them enforceable under the law, just like other traffic rules and regulations.
In the U.K, 2.35 million blue badges are held (Blue Badge Digital Service (BBDS). That is 4.2% of the population that hold a Blue Badge. This is a significant portion of our society who require and depend on the appropriate use of disabled parking bays for daily commuting or just going to collect medication or shopping. Misuse of these bays through lack of enforcement creates considerable impediments in their ability to carry out everyday tasks.
We urge the government to implement regulations and standards that call for all disabled parking bays to be painted yellow, not white. This change will make these parking spaces enforceable by law, ultimately reducing parking misuse and better supporting our community members with disabilities.
Please sign this petition to make all disabled parking bays enforceable by painting them yellow.
