Make ALL animal testing completely illegal in the United States
The Issue
Throughout my life, I've been heartbroken by the unimaginable suffering that animals endure in the name of science and industry. It is appalling how normalized animal testing has become, as if these creatures' lives are mere commodities to be used and discarded. Imagine a world where our choices reflect compassion and empathy, sparing animals from cruelty and death. I implore you, as members of our compassionate society, to help achieve this vision by making animal testing illegal in the United States.
Each year, more than 100 million animals—including monkeys, rabbits, mice, dogs, and more—are used in laboratories for research, testing, and education purposes. According to the Humane Society International, approximately 92% of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals fail in human clinical trials because they are unsafe or ineffective. Isn't it time we question the reliability of such tests and seek humane alternatives?
Technological advancements have paved the way for non-animal testing methods that are more ethical and often more effective. The development of in-vitro testing, computer modeling, and microdosing studies are not only humane but can also provide more accurate predictions of human reactions. For example, EpiDerm, a synthetic skin model, has successfully replaced animal use in skin irritation tests in many industries, proving such innovations can work at a larger scale.
By enforcing a ban on animal testing, we can stimulate an economic shift towards investing in these innovative methods, creating new jobs and reducing the costs associated with traditional animal testing, which often run into billions of dollars annually across industries.
Animal testing is not only inhumane but antiquated, clinging to practices that belong to a bygone era of scientific understanding. It is our societal duty to speak up for the voiceless and make significant changes to our legal systems that reflect our values of compassion and respect for all living beings.
Join me in calling upon our lawmakers to recognize this need for change. By signing this petition, you are urging Congress to craft and pass legislation that bans animal testing in the United States, fostering a more humane and forward-thinking approach to science and industry. Together, let's put an end to animal suffering and shape a future where all creatures can live without fear of exploitation.
