My daughter’s best friend Jamie had a Chihuahua named Sebastian. A family member of Jamie’s did not want the dog any longer, so they took the dog and dropped him off by a very busy highway in our local area and town. Within hours, Sebastian was hit by a car, taken to an animal hospital, and pronounced dead. There were so many other options than dropping an innocent animal off on the side of a dangerous road.

Sebastian needs justice, and we want to protect animals from such heartbreaking fates. We propose creating a law where abandoning an animal becomes a federal charge with immediate legal consequences. People should be provided with resources and options to safely rehome their pets instead of resorting to abandonment.
