There are many schools, one of which being Waubonsie Valley High school, that don’t recycle any of their recyclable waste.  In fact, none of the schools in 204 recycle! Schools create so much recyclable waste; mainly paper and food that would be much more environmentally friendly if they did recycle/compost.  The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that 75 percent of the US waste stream can be recycled or composted, but we're only doing so for just over 34 percent of it.(greenamerica.org).  Schools are huge contributors to this amount of waste and by recycling, we can reduce that number by a lot.  The goal of this petition is to get district 204 to start recycling at the schools from elementary school all the way to high school. By signing this petition we can get the word out and draw attention to this issue and work toward change.
