Sunshine coast local teen Chae Clarken was out near old woman's island on Friday morning just off of maroochydore, he saw a nose bobbing up and down close to the shark nets as he got closer he saw it was a dolphin, hoping to free it he realised it was deceased and the poor creature had drowned. he was outraged and devastated by this horrible outcome and decided it was time for change. He spread the word with his circle of friends and they too decided it was time for a change. To many marine animals have been killed by these horrible shark nets, which have proven to be non effective on the Sunshine Coast. Hundreds of other species of marine animals are also caught and killed by shark nets, including sea birds, dolphins, a wide variety of fish and rays, marine turtles and even up to eight humpback whales have been entangled annually in the Queensland nets in recent years.
