It has long stood as an unbiased monitor and has surfaced numerous instances of poor accountability and management inefficiencies in the past. According to a report by the Canadian Comprehensive Auditing Foundation, an independent Auditor General is essential for democratic accountability and public trust. By allowing political influence over its operations, we risk negating this critical role, creating a potential loophole for misuse of public funds and reduced transparency. It is therefore of utmost importance to preserve the independent operations of the Auditor General in Nova Scotia.
