I am a resident of the South Hamilton School District and I believe in the importance of maintaining cash as an option to pay for entry into our local school events. This issue is personal to me because cash is accessible to everyone, regardless of their social status, financial standing, creditworthiness, age, gender, race or nationality. It requires no registration and eliminates the risk of account information getting hacked.

Moreover, accepting cash does not cost anything to our schools unlike card transactions which incur fees with every use. Our schools already have personnel present at these events who could easily handle cash transactions along with scanning tickets.

I know several people like my Dad who doesnt even own a computer and to be honest can’t navigate a smartphone worth a darn.

According to a 2019 Federal Reserve report on payment choice in the U.S., 26% of all payments were made using cash - demonstrating its continued relevance (Federal Reserve Bank). Furthermore, a study by Cardtronics revealed that 85% of consumers like having the ability to use various payment methods including cash (Cardtronics).

By eliminating this option we are potentially excluding members from our community who prefer or need this method for various reasons. Let's keep our school events inclusive and accessible by maintaining the option for attendees to pay with cash.
