Maintain and Protect the Heritage of Local Feedlot Farms in DFW Area

The Issue

As a an individual deeply rooted in farming, it pains me to see the lack of appreciation for local feedlot farms in our city - farms that have been established before many of us even moved here. These farms play a critical role in sourcing food for numerous businesses in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area and thus directly contribute to the sustenance of our city.

We must recognize the gravity of their work. For instance, according to Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas' farms and ranches lead the nation in cattle, cotton, hay, sheep, goats and mohair production (Source: Texas Department of Agriculture Papers, 2020). This statistic shows that aside from supplying food locally, these farms also contribute significantly to the state's economy and hold a substantial position in the nation's agricultural landscape.

Now imagine the potential impact if we lose our local feedlot farms to development or urbanization. It is time to stand together to ensure that the farms remain a steadfast part of our community. We shouldn't only appreciate the farms for what they bring to our tables, but respect the hard work and dedication of these farmers who work tirelessly to provide for us.

In the light of these facts, I implore you to sign this petition to maintain and protect the heritage of local feedlot farms in the DFW area. In doing so, we are not only preserving our city’s history and supporting our local businesses, but also expressing gratitude for the indispensable job these farms are doing for us.
