ACB Radio, Bring Back The MainMenu Archives
ACB Radio, Bring Back The MainMenu Archives
The Issue
In 2000, the American Council Of the Blind started ACBRadio. One program that was Created early on was MainMenu, a weekly program looking at technology from a blindness prospective. As of March 6, this show is still being produced, making it the oldest program dealing with accessible technology. Up until 2013, archives were made available of the original programs from 2000 to 2008.
In 2013, ACBRadio launched their new website, which caused these programs to no-longer be available to download. Since 2013, this message has been placed on the MainMenu Website, "Shows older than 2008 are temporarily unavailable due to new website and server move. We are working on restoring them on a different page in the new website and hope to have them available once again soon. Please check back often and we will let you know when they are available. Thank you for your patience while we continue to improve the ACB Radio website." Five years later, these archives are still unavailable. These archives provide important history on assistive technology, allowing us to hear demonstrations of important products that lead to the products we have today.
To make matters worse, the archives from 2009 to 2012 are now broken, leading to page not found errors. Now, we are unable to access 12 years of MainMenu programs, and losing 12 years of assistive technology history. By replacing these archives, we will once again have access to 12 years worth of assistive technology programs, allowing interested blind people to learn the history of the tools we have today. please restore these important archives.
