The citizens of Lewiston/Auburn are unfairly taxed by the Gray/New Gloucester toll barrier on the Maine Turnpike. If you live in Western Maine - no toll. If you live along the coast north of Portland - some of the most affluent communities in Maine - no toll. But if you choose to live in Lewiston/Auburn or enjoy the beauty of Franklin County, you get slammed with excessive tolls every time you get on the turnpike north of Gray.

The toll barrier also encourages trucks and commuters to clog the small town of Gray in order to avoid the toll on the turnpike north of the Gray exit - ruining the quality of life and damaging the secondary roads with heavy weight vehicles.

The people of Lewiston/Auburn are tired of subsidizing the wealthy communities of coastal Maine. And we don't want to start subsidizing the gamblers at the new casino in Oxford County.

Take this toll barrier down! Spread the cost of maintaining our highways fairly across regions.

Stop this unfair tax on the people of Lewiston/Auburn!
