Dear MMA community:

The Maine Maritime Academy Football team is asking for your support after we were informed the school would be indefinitely suspending our program due to a “10% curtailment” of state funding for state schools. The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly affected all of us, but a massive influx of funding from the Fed. Gov. to the state of Maine was handed down and distributed throughout state government entities, including state schools. The numbers simply don’t add up.

The MMA football players reject this decision and call on the administration to overturn their decision. Our team operates largely through donations from alumni of the program and we believe that the MMA Alumni Association can help us overturn this unfair decision. Our program also provides the school with the largest group of alumni donors who generously contribute to the betterment of our Academy and athletic experience.

With the cancelation of our season there would be minimal expenses this year, making this decision extreme to say the least. Academy leadership gave no warning to this decision and notified everybody via one mass email. This program has a rich history that creates leaders who embody exactly what it means to be a Maine Maritime Mariner. We’ve respected the anchor and done our part, now it’s their turn. The Academy abandoned our program and we’re asking for your help. Please sign this petition to show your support.
