Mahwah Council Members to Prohibit Deer Bow-Hunting

The Issue

Our community in Mahwah, dear to my heart, is home not only to us, its human inhabitants, but also to a tranquil and harmless wildlife population. Deers are our benign neighbors, blissfully unaware of the peril they face from those who see them as targets in their sport. It's unthinkable that such a tame creature could be subjected to such a cruel fate. Bow-hunting deer, a practice that traces its permissions back to 1946, endangers both these innocent creatures and our community overall, particularly with the rising residential developments within our beautiful township.

It's abhorrent to allow this outdated law to continue to inflict harm upon our deer population and risk the safety of our residents. Bow-hunting, apart from being exceptionally cruel, also presents a host of public safety risks. Studies have shown that hunting carries a significant risk of injury not just for the animals, but also for human bystanders, especially in populated areas. Therefore, this petition is not only about animal welfare, but also about the welfare and safety of our community.

Furthermore, deers play a significant role in the ecosystem. They contribute to the area's biodiversity, which is essential for environmental stability. The indiscriminate elimination of deer from our local environment could result in unforeseen and potentially harmful ecological implications.

We implore Mayor Jim Wysocki to act in the best interests of all those living in Mahwah, both human and animal, and ban deer bow-hunting. Let's take a step into the future where we coexist with nature peacefully, rather than resorting to archaic practices for recreation. Please, sign this petition and let your voice be heard in defense of our community and its innate wildlife.
