1 of the main poll planks of BJP in Maharashtra was to give people reprieve from various tolls levied on roads across state. While the government did closed a few & exempted cars from many, no action has been yet take on the tolls collected on the 5 entry points of Mumbai.

A high level committee was formed to study & come up with suggestions to exempt private cars & state buses last year, but they have been only taking various extension for a year now & no report is out yet or it has not been made public. The new state budget also does not announce anything in this regards.

Mumbaikars have been paying these high toll fees for many years now & the contract is still there for 10 more years & it will keep getting extended. We already pay high taxes in various forms when we buy vehicles in form of Octrio, road tax etc & then we again pay steep toll fees for usage of these roads. Lets u not forget the steep excise duty we now pay on petrol & diesel because of which in spite of crude oil prices coming down, the oil prices continue to be higher. 

Let us ask the government & BMC to respond & ensure that the toll collection is stopped or taken only from Goods vehicles in form applicable Octroi. It is always the middle class that takes hit from all such directions & end up paying various taxes reducing the final savings in our pockets.
