The Issue

Enough is enough! The city of Las Cruces, NM has seen an increase in crime rates from 2022 involving young children and their easy access to hand guns. As a mother of a survivor from a gun shot wound to the head, I feel obligated to raise awareness and fight for harsher punishments. I know of a few mothers who have not been so fortunate and have had to bury their children. The children shouldn’t be left to run the world as it is a place of massacre and violence. Instead the community needs to step it up and create change. Practice having neighborhoods watch and report when there is suspicious crime taking place. Not be afraid to be a mandated reporter. More recreational centers available for the children to participate in sports. Also the implementation of stricter laws for those under 18 years of age for them to have a curfew in place. Bring “Teen Court” back! Give curfew tickets should they be caught out in the streets past 9pm at night without a valid reason. They must have proper documentation to justify the breach. Give consequences of at least 200 hrs per curfew ticket in community service when found guilty of violating the law. Things such as neighborhood watch, trash clean up crews, church volunteering, graffiti removal and participated in approved school related events. Making the world a better place; one touched mother at a time.
