We’ve officially passed 450 signatures on the Madison Tenant Bill of Rights.
Now we’re taking the next step.
In 2026, we are pushing forward several city-level housing policy changes to bring the Madison Tenant Bill of Rights closer to reality. These proposals focus on immediate, concrete improvements to housing conditions.
To move this work forward, we’re organizing two upcoming events:
📅 Tenant Housing Policy Forum
Wednesday, June 24th, 6 - 8 PM
Madison Central Library, Room 301
This forum will bring together renters and elected officials to discuss practical policy solutions.
📅 Open House Tenant Assembly
Saturday, July 11th, 12 - 4 PM
Madison Labor Temple, Room 109 (1602 S Park St)
RSVP: https://bit.ly/open-house-assembly
This will be a space for tenants to connect and help shape the next phase of tenant organizing.
We are also advancing four city policy proposals for 2026:
- Prohibiting rent increases on units with verified serious code violations
- Creating a city rent control advisory tied to affordability and housing conditions
- Requiring critical habitability repairs within 48 hours
- Creating public access to housing code violation records
