POSTPONE MADISON 2020 GRADUATION

The Issue

MADISON SENIORS!!!

As you all know, our graduation is going to be held virtually this year. None of us will get to walk the stage, give our speeches, or receive our diplomas the way that we have been promised. With this virtual "graduation," we are being robbed of an important milestone in our lives. Since the release of this new information, most of the senior class have expressed their opinions about this decision, most of them being negative. A large majority of the senior class is opposed to this online ceremony and agree that it would be best to postpone the event. Since the senior class was not even asked about this matter prior to the decision, we are making this effort to try to change it.

Other schools, such as Mentor, have postponed their graduation in order to ensure that their seniors can have the graduation that they deserve. Why Madison does not do the same is unknown. As well as postponing the ceremony, there are other precautions that can be taken to ensure our safety without resorting to virtual graduation. The ceremony can be held outside, we can wear masks and gloves, practice social distancing, and more. We are sure that the majority of the senior class would much rather wait a few months and incorporate these changes into the ceremony rather than have it online.

Although we hope that this petition will be enough to persuade the Board of Education to postpone the ceremony, it is not guaranteed. We hope that we can get enough signatures from this year's senior class to make a change and get the ceremony we deserve. We ask that the seniors from Madison's graduating class will take a moment to sign this petition, and that any underclassmen would share this with their friends.

Thank you.
