SeaWorld has been keeping cetaceans captive for 50 years.  The hide behind the facade of research and conservation in the name of family entertainment.  The movie Blackfish exposed the truth of the care that SeaWorld’s killer whales receive. The movie A Fall from Freedom helped expose a link between SeaWorld and the killings of dolphins and whales in the cove of Taiji, Japan - a practice exposed by the movie The Cove.  Purchases by sea aquariums such as SeaWorld of dolphins captured in Taiji help to fund the brutal dolphin killings still going on today.

 

There are so many problems with care of dolphins and killer whales (orcas). Tilikum was 2 years old when he was captured from his Icelandic waters his pod calls home.  He is the main breeding male orca and has since been stressed out, isolated, and pushed to the point of eventually killing a trainer.  Please note that while Tilikum is responsible for the deaths of 3 people during his time in captivity, no orca has ever killed a human in the wild.  Also, orcas in captivity live miserable lives which are much shorter than those living their lives in the wild.

 

These magnificent beings swim over 100 miles per day in the wild and are forced in captivity to live in small pools, having to perform for audiences in order to be fed.  None of them should be in captivity.  The can be released to ocean sanctuaries while a few of them may be able to be reintroduced to their pods from which they were captured.

 

Organizations such as Taco Bell and Southwest Airlines have disassociated themselves from SeaWorld.  Musical groups have canceled concerts.  It is time for Macy’s to do the same, and can do so by prohibiting SeaWorld from entering a float to help spread their propaganda.  Their attendance has been falling as has their stock price.  People have taken notice of their lies.  Macy's need not help SeaWorld perpetuate them.

 

Macy's needs to join these groups in telling SeaWorld that it is not appropriate to be keeping orcas and dolphins in captivity.  They can do this by not allowing SeaWorld to participate in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.
