SAVE THE MACMILLAN CAFE IN THE PEARCE INSTITUTE, GOVAN

SAVE THE MACMILLAN CAFE IN THE PEARCE INSTITUTE, GOVAN
The Issue
The Macmillan Cancer Support Cafe opened in Govan's Pearce Institute in 2015. It was officially opened by none other than Govan's most famous son, Sir Alex Ferguson.
Sadly, Macmillan Cancer Support have withdrawn funding for the cafe and it will close its doors this month (September 2018).
The cafe has proved to be very popular with the people of Greater Govan and further afield. It is one of the few eateries around that offers locals and employees in surrounding businesses affordable cooked meals.
By providing affordable cooked meals the Macmillan Cancer Support Cafe has become a lifeline for many people and families. Our local food bank, Glasgow South West Food Bank, has recently reported a 42% increase in people accessing their services. The low-cost food provided by the Macmillan Cafe is needed now more than ever. It has proved to be a vital community resource and it will be sorely missed.
This petition calls on Macmillan Cancer Support to rethink their decision to withdraw funding. The cafe needs £40,000 to continue to operate. That might seem like a large amount of money to you and I but to an organisation like Macmillan Cancer Support this is a 'drop in the Clyde'.
The loss of this cafe will be felt greatly by many community members who have come to depend on it.
We urge you to please reverse this decision and keep our local cafe open.
