St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN, was founded in 1853 during a cholera outbreak by The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Becoming the first hospital in Minnesota. Now, 167 years later, St. Joseph’s is closing during the middle of a pandemic. St. Joseph’s is being shut down for financial reasons, however, M Health Fairview has plans to expand other hospitals within their system with services St. Joseph’s already offers… Why not improve what they already have? St. Joseph's is a 253-bed hospital. It is the center for cardiac catheterization and has been named nationally in the "100 Top Hospitals for Cardiac Care". It was recently ranked #5 in Minnesota and #2 in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Shutting down St. Joseph's would be a huge loss for Minnesota. This loss will create an even bigger strain on surrounding hospitals in the midst of a pandemic and the rapidly approaching flu season. Hundreds of jobs are going to be terminated because of this decision. Hundreds of lives and the lives of their families are going to be greatly impacted, along side the community and the patients this amazing hospital serves and cares for.
