Bring Molecular Recycling Plant to Lyondell Basell's Tuscola Plant

The Issue

Lyondell Basell announced on August 13, 2021 that they will be closing their Tuscola, Illinois Ethanol Production Plant later this year.  They site poor economic conditions as the reason for the closing.  Lyondell Basell has ventured into molecular plastics recycling testing for some time now.  They have been testing in Belgium and in December 2020 they increased production there.  Given that President Biden has signed a 1 trillion dollar, bi-partisan infrastructure bill, which includes funds for a move toward replacing US non-environmentally manufacturing plants with environmentally friendly manufacturing, why should we not try to save the Tuscola Lyondell Basell plant by re-purposing to the new technology of reducing plastics to their molecular structure which will allow for those plastics to be re-used over and over rather than creating more plastic in our world?  Tuscola could become a hub for plastics to be delivered by truck and rail to help us stop the production of 35.7 million tons of plastic a year.  Let's start the trend to replace plastic manufacturing jobs with more and more molecular plastic recycling plants!  But, to begin, let's save the mere 130 jobs at the Tuscola Lyondell Basell plant!  Read more about Lyondell Basell's testing here.
