This past weekend on May 8, there was a shooting in the Aventura Mall. I was working my shift at the mall when all of a sudden people swarmed toward the back screaming “SHOOTER RUN”. Frantic and scared for my life I ran to the back room and hid for safety with the rest of my team and some customers.  Although it was between a gang fight in Nordstrom, the shots put panic in everyone at the mall causing people to run for their lives and hide in stores until being released by police. This impacted not only employees of the mall but families and children enjoying their weekend. A year ago exactly, May 2020, there was another shooting that happened in the mall that was brushed off and forgotten quickly. With everything our society faces and even with the mall expanding to be one of the largest in the US, we need to help prevent this from happening again by putting metal detectors, proper security measures, and technology at each point of entrance. The residents of Aventura should feel safe to go to there local mall and shop with their children and family without thinking: “I can get shot or be traumatized going through an extreme experience.” We are holding the owners responsible of the mall and all who play a role to install proper measures to protect the innocent lives at Aventura mall on a day to day basis.
