Tras la partida de los últimos vencejos pálidos a sus cuarteles de invierno en África, las autoridades competentes de Medio Ambiente de la Junta de Extremadura han decidido que se tienen que conservar como mínimo entre un 10 y un 20% de los nidos originales del Baluarte de los Pozos (muralla almohade de Cáceres). Además, como medida compensatoria, se han de integrar al menos 150 nidales en muros que se han de construir cerca de la colonia.
No estamos del todo satisfechos, pues consideramos que debería mantenerse un número mayor, pero es todo un logro porque nadie más apostó por conservar ninguno de estos nidos.
Las obras se encuentran avanzadas y hemos solicitado a la Dirección General de Sostenibilidad de la Junta de Extremadura que adopte las medidas necesarias para asegurar el cumplimiento efectivo de las condiciones recogidas en su autorización ambiental.
Pronto regresarán los vencejos de África y veremos con tristeza vencejos intentando entrar en sus nidos ya inexistentes. Confiamos en que aquellos más afortunados cuyos nidos se mantengan, constituirán el núcleo atractor para la ocupación paulatina de los nuevos nidales.
Hasta el fin de las obras, no tendremos la seguridad del cumplimiento de la autorización ambiental y por eso no cesaremos en nuestro empeño por la conservación de esta colonia.

After the departure of the last pallid swifts to wintering to Africa, the Environement Authorities of the Regional Governement of Extremadura have decided that must be conserved at least 10-20% of the original nests of the Baluarte de los Pozos (Almohad Wall of Cáceres). In addition, as a compensatory measure, at least 150 swift nest boxes must be installed inside of walls that will be built near the original colonie.
We are not completely satisfied. We believe that there should be maintained many other nests, but it’s a good achievement because nobody but us have fight for the conservation of any of them.
Now the works are advanced and we have requested to the Environement Authorities of the Regional Governement of Extremadura to check the effective fulfillment of the conditions of their environmental authorization.
When the swifts will return from Africa, we will sadly contemplate swifts trying to enter their non-existent nests. We trust that those most fortunate whose nests are maintained will be the surviving and attractor nucleus that will allow the gradual occupation of the nestsboxes integrated into the new wallsUntil the end of the works, we'll not be sure of the compliance with the environmental authorization requirements. So, we will not cease our efforts to conserve this swift colony yet.
