Full implementation of E-Jeep in Makati CBD

Full implementation of E-Jeep in Makati CBD

The Issue

The jeepneys have been a source of livelihood for Filipinos; specially for drivers and operators. But despite symbolizing the Filipino culture, it is one of the biggest source of carbon emission. Jeepney drivers are also notoriously resistant of imposing traffic rules and road discipline. They pick up and unload passengers n the middle of a busy streets of the metro and turn any vacant block into terminals. Of course this problem isn't new in our country, but what better way to solve this problem than being an example for the many?

With rising oil prices and worsening air pollution, Filipinos are looking into clean and green technology as the only viable option for the country’s transport industry. This is gladly manifested in the people’s growing fascination with and acceptance of the electric jeepney, or e-jeepney, that environmentally-friendly version of the iconic, World War II-era public vehicle. This solution isn't new at all because it is known that the 'Makati Green Route' is present today. What will make this new is adding routes for the green route. Currently there are two routes for the e-jeepney: the Legaspi Village route and Salcedo Village route. What we want to happen is to add routes for the 'Makati Green Route' or in other words, replace the old jeepney route in Makati CBD with the Green Route. This will surely have a big impact in lessening the carbon emission in the city.
