LSU Climate Pelicans started this petition to LSU Office of the President and

To avoid the most dangerous consequences of global climate change, more than 60% of oil and natural gas, plus 90% of coal reserves need to remain in the ground. Fossil fuel companies have no intention of heeding this, making them both unethical and unsound financial investments. LSU needs to wake up to its front row seat to climate change, especially in the wake of Hurricane Ida, and accept its responsibility to divest from companies financing the injustice of climate change.

We call on President Tate, LSU Board of Trustees and LSU Foundation to divest Louisiana State University's financial endowment from the fossil fuel industry. Our ask is simple:

1.     Divest the endowment funds within an actionable timeline from companies that:

a.      Extract, refine, develop, or sell fossil fuel resources.

b.     Engage in anti-climate lobbying

2.     Reinvest funds endowment funds in carbon-free energy investments, and investments that, on the whole, are congruent with the values of the university and its faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

Please support our petition as we move toward a sustainable, cleaner, more equitable future for all.
