Fire Katsura Kurita, Deputy Coordinator of Title IX At Loyola University Maryland

Fire Katsura Kurita, Deputy Coordinator of Title IX At Loyola University Maryland

The Issue

Over the past few weeks, many Loyola victims came forward about their experiences with sexual assault on campus through the Instagram account @thedobettercampaign. In these anonymous accounts, victims have been assaulted and silenced by Loyola, specifically Katsura Kurita, the Title IX Coordinator.

Many of these stories discussed how Title IX was made aware of these events, but chose to cover it up. Title IX held evidence of videos of assault, but did not pursue any action. They suggest victims to "sit away from" the abuser, instead of actually reprimanding him/her. We can't tolerate this anymore.

It is extremely evident that Katsura is not an advocate for her students, thus disqualifying herself from the position. She does not protect victims; she silences them and protects the abusers. Protecting these abusers enables them to continue hurting victims, thus continuing the vicious cycle. We demand she is fired from her position and is replaced by someone who has Loyola survivors at heart and truly advocates for victims of sexual assault and other Title IX violations.

A Loyola employee that does not protect the students is not deserving of a place on this campus. Our students deserve to feel safe and protected by EVERYONE in the university. Katsura is not an ally to the Loyola community.
