The Issue

Poverty is a common issue that has been around the Philippines. It has also been a factor that connects with other global issues that are happening such as education, malnutrition and unemployment. These issues are deeply intertwined within the same roots of cases where qualified individuals have been overlooked simply because they lack a specific degree. This can create an insignificant barrier and promote inequality to those individuals that comes from an underprivileged background that lacked the resources to pursue higher education yet holds the skills that are needed in certain job offers. Nowadays, there are already multiple jobs that should not require being a college graduate including, appliance technicians, customer service, hair dressers, and etc. Skills such as communication, technical expertise and problem-solving, are far more necessary. As individuals that rises within the same community let us give these people a chance to escape from poverty and open opportunity for employment.

To break the escape from poverty, this petition acquires to show the importance of implementing policies that would prioritize skills and experience in certain careers that should not necessarily require a college degree. Launch campaigns that would raise awareness of the potential of the skills that individuals from unfortunate backgrounds possess and to create support programs that would give a lending hand for them to navigate opportunities in the job market. By implementing simple solutions, it can change the lives of many and create a more inclusive job market in the Philippines that could raise families in moments of deprivation and provide a better future for families.

As fellow Filipinos, come and sign this petition to urge our community in adopting to a more inclusive job hiring processes. Together let us be the voice of these individuals!
