The Issue

My 13-year-old daughter faced a terrifying experience that no child should have to endure. On her way to school, without a protective adult accompanying her, a sexual predator tried to lure her into his vehicle. Not only did this man fully expose himself to her, but when law enforcement intervened, they found he had two unregistered, altered firearms with hollow point bullets stored under the seat of his car. This is not just a one-time incident. The police linked him to other victims, proving that such threats are real and present in our neighborhoods.

Unaccompanied minors walking within the designated boundaries to their schools in Vineland, NJ, are not safe. The walker boundaries force young students to pass through neighborhoods where sexual predators reside. Parents trust that their children are safe when walking to school, but with registered predators living along these routes, the security of our children is hanging in the balance.

We urge the school district and local authorities of Vineland, NJ, to take immediate action. The walker boundaries need to be reevaluated and adjusted to ensure that no child has to walk through areas known for housing registered sexual offenders. The safety of our children should be the highest priority, and budgets should reflect this priority - there should be no financial caps when it comes to executing plans that ensure our children's safe commute to school.

Concrete solutions might include expanding the boundaries for school-provided transportation or introducing safe routes monitored by community volunteers or law enforcement. Whatever the measure, we are calling for decisive action to prevent any more children from experiencing the harrowing ordeal my daughter went through.

We cannot allow the safety of our children to be compromised any longer. We need your support to make this change happen. Please sign this petition to lower walker restrictions and create safer routes for school children in Vineland, NJ. Together, we can build a safer community for our children.
