The Issue

Castle Bytham is facing an urgent safety concern. Rapid vehicular traffic on our narrow, winding roads is putting residents at risk every day.

This danger has already led to tragedy. On 1st October 2025, a four-year-old boy was struck by a car in the village and suffered significant injuries. Our community has been left shaken, and it is clear that the current 30mph limit is too high for a village of this size and layout.

Other rural villages across Lincolnshire that reduced their limits to 20mph have seen a 60% reduction in accidents, according to County Council reports. Lowering the speed limit here will protect pedestrians and cyclists, encourage safer walking and cycling, and make our village a safer place to live for all residents.

We therefore call on Castle Bytham Parish Council and Lincolnshire County Council to urgently reduce the speed limit within residential and high pedestrian areas of Castle Bytham to 20mph.

This is a simple, effective, and life-saving measure. Please sign this petition to help protect our children, our families, and our community
