Lower the Speed Limit from National Speed Limit to 40mph on A458 for Safer Streets

Lower the Speed Limit from National Speed Limit to 40mph on A458 for Safer Streets

The Issue

Residents living along and around the vicinity on the A458 between Morfe and Six Ashes are fearful and nervous about the road speed, noise and antisocial behaviour of some road users.

Attempting to pull into the main road from both the new housing developments and existing side roads has become a heart-stopping experience, with the constant danger posed by speeding cars and motorcycles. This has resulted in a negative impact on mental health and overall wellbeing due to the worrying frequency of accidents on this stretch, we dread the day when a simple manoeuvre can cost a life. The national speed limit is no longer appropriate considering the changing nature of the locality.

The A458's speed limit remains from days gone by, when the area was less inhabited. But that has now changed and requires urgent review.

The number of new premises now built and planned to be built will significantly increased the number of people living in the area including young children and the elderly.

The speed vehicles travel along this stretch between Morfe and Six Ashes are both scary and reckless, resulting in thoughtless antisocial behaviour of overtaking manoeuvres with excessive noise pollution (recorded at over 90dB on multiple occasions!)

The residents of our community in and around Wootton are resolute in a determination to create a safer and more respectful environment. The council has a responsibility to review and revise the speed limit with an emphasis not just on the flow of traffic, but on the safety of those who live here.

This petition asks for the speed limit on A458 to be lowered from the national speed limit to 40mph. By making this important change, we raise the chances of preventing unnecessary tragedies.

Please support us in this measure and sign this petition for safer and more secure streets.
