The Issue

Growing up, grabbing a bag of chips for $1 was a simple pleasure. It was a small reward I could count on when I needed a pick-me-up—affordable and satisfying. However, lately, I'm finding that this small indulgence is creeping out of reach as prices hover around $2 or more in many places.

As someone who makes an effort to budget carefully, seeing an essential snack like chips fall victim to inflation is disheartening. Many individuals and families heavily rely on affordable snacks and foods to get through the day. The price hike isn't just an inconvenience—it's an economic challenge for countless people across our communities who deserve access to affordable food.

Chips are a staple in school lunches, a go-to coworker snack, and a popular party treat. With the price of living increasing across the board, keeping common necessities like these affordable is crucial. In 2023, it was reported that food prices globally saw an average increase of 3.1%—a far cry from wages, which haven't kept pace. Many snack companies have seen increased profits yet continue to charge more for the same products.

There is a way forward. I propose that snack companies collaborate with retailers and consuming public to bring down chip prices without losing out on fair profit. By leaning into operational efficiencies and maybe even adjusting packaging sizes, there exists a path to balancing profit with consumer benefit.

Please join me in urging snack companies and retailers to reassess the pricing strategies for chips. Let's work together towards a return to affordability, where a simple $1 can guarantee a satisfying snack. By signing this petition, you help amplify the call for fair and thoughtful pricing in our everyday lives. Stand with me to bring about an equitable change we all wish to see—one bag of chips at a time.

Please sign this petition and advocate for lower chip prices!
